Lake Arenal is at zero altitude — it’s at ground level! But the elevation there is around 1000 meters. I was there briefly, and didn’t have any trouble with mosquitoes. I’m very sensitive to humidity levels, but found Laguna Arenal quite comfortable. That was in early March, though — earlier in the year might be even less humid, cooler, with less chance of mosquitoes, while a bit later the rainy season would be closer, and the humidity level (and maybe mosquitoes, too) would be more intense.

No mosquitos in the area, don´t worry you´re not going to get a bad desease or something similar.
    Good luck
